Abstract

Land acquisition for the construction of the Makassar-Pare-Pare railway facilities and infrastructure aims to improve inter-regional connectivity and advance the regional economy. This land acquisition has an impact both directly and indirectly on the environment and also the people who are in the land acquisition location and also the surrounding locations. The purpose of this study is to map changes in land use that occur in the area of railway infrastructure development and the surrounding area and to find out the social conditions of the people affected by the construction of the railway warehouse. This study uses a qualitative method with a spatial approach and descriptive analysis. The spatial approach is used to analyze changes in land use that occur in the development area and the surrounding area. Furthermore, the qualitative method used is descriptive to make a description of the social conditions of the community affected by land acquisition. The results of this study are: first, the construction of railway facilities and infrastructure has an impact on changes in land use in Tanete Rilau District. The land use that experienced the highest changes was paddy fields which experienced a decrease in area of up to 37.77 hectares and upland areas of 12.40 hectares. In addition, there is a reduction in the rock mountain area of 1.41 hectares. Meanwhile, there has been no change in the area around the development area. Second, the impact felt by the community from the development was that there was a flood which resulted in farmers failing to harvest, damage to residents' houses due to development in the Gunung Batu area and the price of compensation for land acquisition affecting the price of land around it. Third, the social impact felt by smallholders is the reduction in arable land resulting in loss of work, flooding that results in crop failure and difficulty in accessing rice fields around the train warehouse construction area due to the absence of road access.
