Abstract

The increase of development that continues, especially in the housing sector and the tourism industry in Junrejo District, Batu City, causing the area of agricultural land to continue to decrease every year and non-agricultural land to increase. The development of the tourism and housing industry in Junrejo District is the result of land conversion activities into non-agricultural land which can affect agricultural land that produces food for the local population and its surroundings. For this reason, the purpose of this study was to determine the suitability of land conversion to the directions of the Junrejo RTRW and the factors that influence the occurrence of land conversion in Junrejo District based on the views of the community. The method used in this study is a mixed method. The results of this study indicate that the level of land conversion in 2019-2023 reached 6.03% or an area of 185.14 ha of the total area of Junrejo District with a suitability level for the RTRW reaching 29.6% or 54.47 ha; supports the RTRW directives reaching 56.94% or 104.78 ha; and the non-conformity of land use change reached 13.46% or 24.77 ha which was dominated by the use of sparse village land in the direction of food crop areas. Then, the factors causing the conversion of agricultural land to non-agriculture in Junrejo District, including: (1) lack of interest in agricultural activities; (2) housing needs; (3) inadequate facilities and infrastructure; (4) low education level; (5) high development activity; (6) high land prices; (7) there are job options outside the agricultural sector (8) housing needs; and (9) lack of public knowledge of government policies regarding land conversion. This happened because the economic conditions of the farmer households were quite low prior to the conversion of agricultural land. Keywords: Land Conversion, Land Use, RTRW, Sustainability
