Abstract

The need for land is increasing along with economic development and urbanization, as well as the negative impact of the conversion of agricultural land to non-agricultural land in Sleman Regency, Yogyakarta. This change in land use threatens food security, farmer welfare and environmental sustainability. This research aims to determine the pattern of land conversion in Sleman Regency, its impact on food security, and the control strategies needed to achieve sustainable food security in the region. This research method uses a mixed method. Data collection techniques were carried out through image interpretation, observation, interviews and document study. The research results show that based on the 2016 and 2023 land cover maps, the greatest land conversion in Sleman Regency occurred in the Central Sleman Region, with a clustered pattern due to uneven regional development. The impacts include reduced food security, reduced local environmental quality, threats to biodiversity, increased land values and costs of living, and development gaps. Analysis shows that land conversion reduces agricultural land and divides food security into three zones: Convertible Land Zone (low food security) in Depok, Ngaglik and Mlati; Buffer Land Zones in Godean, Ngemplak and Berbah; as well as the Land For Sustainable Zone (sustainable agriculture) in Turi, Pakem, Cangkringan, Tempel, Kalasan, Prambanan, Seyegan, Minggir and Moyudan. Control efforts include spatial planning regulations, LP2B protection, cross-sector collaboration, community participation, as well as routine monitoring and evaluation by relevant agencies.
