Abstract

Urban areas continue to develop from time to time, this phenomenon cannot be separated from urbanization, which is a stage in the development of urban areas. Urbanization occurs due to the lack of employment opportunities in villages coupled with rapid population growth encouraging people to mobilize to urban areas. This causes the workforce to be concentrated in one area. Urbanization is also one of the drivers of the concentration of economic activities which is the forerunner of agglomeration. High urbanization and rapid urban growth and development encourage changes in land use to meet land demand. If this change occurs continuously and on a large scale, it will cause problems. The method used in this research is a quantitative method with various approaches, namely the spatial approach to analyze changes in land use and land availability, the shift-share approach to determine labor shifts and the Spearman Rank correlation test approach to determine the relationship between variables. The research results show that changes in land use in the Yogyakarta urban agglomeration and its surroundings have a trend towards becoming non-agricultural cultivation areas, namely residential areas. The impact of urban agglomeration has a positive side, such as improving public facilities and developing residential areas, and the negative impact is that rapid land conversion will have an impact on regional food security. Urbanization has a positive correlation with changes in land use as well as land availability and distance to APY and its surroundings in Sleman Regency. Meanwhile, in Bantul Regency, all variables have no correlation. Keywords: urban agglomeration, land use change, labor shift
