Abstract

Activities for land acquisition for the construction of public interest, the Jogja-Bawen Toll Road construction spanning 75.12 km, will traverse two provinces: Central Java Province for 66.32 km and the Special Region of Yogyakarta for 8.80 km. This is a continuation of the Solo-Yogyakarta-Kulon Progo YIA Airport Toll Road construction, which is part of the National Strategic Projects (PSN). The purpose of this toll road infrastructure project is to improve accessibility between Yogyakarta and Semarang and is expected to accelerate development. Compensation often becomes an issue in land acquisition and poses problems that hinder the process, one of which is that the people consider the price set by the government to be too low and insufficient to guarantee long-term welfare. This study aims to understand the utilization of compensation money, the economic condition of farmers in terms of livelihood, and the welfare level of farmers after the land acquisition for the Jogja-Bawen Toll Road construction in Margokaton Village. The research method used in this study is a qualitative method with a descriptive approach. The results show that the utilization of compensation money is grouped into two uses: productive and consumptive activities. The land acquisition for the Jogja-Bawen Toll Road construction in Margokaton Village resulted in the loss or reduction of agricultural land owned by farmers. The majority of farmers as the rightful parties in Margokaton Village are considered to have a low welfare status because their spending on basic needs is greater than their spending on non-basic needs. Keywords: Compensation, Utilization of Money, Land Acquisition
