Abstract

The conversion of agricultural land to non-agricultural land is a process of changing land use from certain forms of use to other uses. This land conversion occurs due to competition in land use between the agricultural sector and the non-agricultural sector which arises as a result of three phenomena, namely economic, social, limited resources, population increase and economic growth. Food needs will increase along with the increase in population. The aim of this research is to find out what the socio-economic conditions of farming communities are after the conversion of paddy fields to non-agricultural land. This research is descriptive qualitative with a focus on looking at land conversion that occurred in Margoluwih Village, Seyegan District. Data collection techniques were carried out by means of observation, direct interviews with informants. Data sources were obtained through direct observation at the research location and conducting interviews with informants, namely with people whose land had experienced land conversion and the community's views regarding the change of function that occurred in Margoluwih Village. In conclusion, the conversion of rice fields in Margoluwih District is influenced by internal factors in the form of the economic motives of rice farmers, and also external factors in the form of population growth. Farmers are the main actors affected by this phenomenon, especially socially and economically. Then this phenomenon is seen through an economic approach. Farmers have economic motives in making decisions to sell/convert their rice fields. Keywords: Land Function Transfer (Conversion)
