Abstract

The conversion of agricultural land into non-agricultural use due to urban expansion and housing demands in peri-urban areas poses a serious challenge to maintaining local food security. This study aims to analyze the influence of agricultural land potential on food production and its ability to meet the subsistence food needs of the population in Sidomoyo Village, Sleman Regency. The research compares spatial and production data from the years 2010 and 2024 and evaluates the factors influencing land use conversion. The method used is descriptive-comparative with a quantitative approach, utilizing secondary data from relevant institutions. The results indicate a significant decrease in productive agricultural land, leading to a reduction in food production volume, particularly for seasonal crops such as rice, corn, and peanuts. Furthermore, land conversion is largely driven by external factors such as infrastructure development and population growth, as well as internal factors including the economic condition of farming households. The study concludes that although Sidomoyo Village is still able to meet its subsistence food needs as of 2024, the ongoing reduction in agricultural land threatens future food security. Therefore, a strategic approach is needed to protect agricultural land through strict regulation and by strengthening the role of village governments as key actors in managing land use conversion.
