Abstract
Bantul Regency is one of the primary buffer zones supporting the urban development of Yogyakarta, experiencing significant land use pressure due to population growth and development demands. This dynamic highlights the importance of evaluating the suitability between actual land use, the Land Potential Index (IPL), and the spatial structure outlined in the RTRW (Regional Spatial Plan). The IPL reflects the potential value of land based on its physical characteristics. The IPL parameters used in this research include slope gradient, soil type, rock type, aquifer productivity, and disaster vulnerability (floods, landslides, tsunamis, and earthquakes). This research aims to determine IPL values, identify land use patterns, and evaluate land use suitability based on both the IPL and the RTRW in Bantul Regency. A quantitative descriptive method with a spatial approach was employed, focusing on spatial variables to gain a deeper understanding of specific phenomena through spatial representation. The results show that in Bantul Regency, the IPL classification is as follows: very high (8.583%), high (41.041%), moderate (23.541%), low (19.376%), and very low (7.460%). Land use is categorized into 21 classes, with the dominant types being settlements (21,545.265 ha), irrigated rice fields (12,605.552 ha), and mixed gardens (6,836.777 ha). In general, the level of land use suitability with the IPL in 2024 is considered moderately appropriate, as indicated by the dominance of high to very high IPL classes in productive areas such as irrigated rice fields. Furthermore, in terms of alignment with the RTRW, approximately 66.56% of land use is categorized as suitable, 17.15% as moderately suitable, and 16.29% as unsuitable.
