Abstract

This study examines the phenomenon of agricultural land conversion to non-agricultural uses in Sumberrahayu Village, Moyudan Subdistrict, Sleman Regency. The conversion of agricultural land, particularly paddy fields, has led to a decline in productive land area and poses a threat to local food security. Data indicate that Sleman Regency has experienced a reduction in paddy field areas, with Sumberrahayu Village showing the highest rate of decline. The driving factors behind this change include population growth, decreasing agricultural productivity, and economic considerations that encourage landowners to convert their land into more profitable uses. This study aims to: (1) identify changes in agricultural to non-agricultural land use, (2) analyze the resulting impacts, and (3) examine efforts to control land conversion. The research employs a qualitative method with a descriptive approach, utilizing observation, interviews, and documentation for data collection. The results show that during the period 2018–2024, there has been a significant shift from agricultural land to non-agricultural land (residential yards). This transformation has affected community livelihoods and income levels. Efforts to control land conversion require strategies involving institutional regulation and increased community participation. Overall, this study confirms that agricultural land conversion is a complex phenomenon influenced by demographic, economic, and social factors, and requires integrated control measures to ensure the sustainability of land resources and food security.
