Abstract

The conversion of agricultural land to non-agricultural uses is one of the issues that potentially threatens food security due to the reduction of productive agricultural land. This study aims to identify the spatial distribution pattern of land conversion, analyze the factors influencing agricultural land conversion, and predict food security conditions in Pacitan District. The research employed a quantitative approach using Sentinel satellite imagery data from 2016 and 2025, population data, and agricultural data. The analyses were conducted through land cover classification, spatial overlay, Average Nearest Neighbor (ANN), multiple linear regression, and food security prediction using the linear trend equation method. The results indicate that during the period 2016–2025, a total of 406.69 hectares of agricultural land was converted to non-agricultural uses. The ANN analysis revealed a clustered distribution pattern, indicating that land-use changes were concentrated in several specific areas. The multiple linear regression analysis showed that population size and population density had a significant effect on agricultural land conversion, whereas the distance from village/urban village centers to the district center had no significant effect. The food security analysis demonstrated that the continuing trend of land conversion has the potential to reduce regional food production capacity, with the food security threshold estimated to be reached approximately 4.275 years after 2025 if the current rate of land conversion persists. This study concludes that the conversion of agricultural land in Pacitan District is driven by population pressure and has implications for the decline of food security in the future. Therefore, effective control of agricultural land conversion through sustainable spatial planning policies is essential to maintain regional food security.
