Abstract

The phenomenon of the threat of degradation of agricultural land is happening faster and more widely in Indonesia. If these problems continue to be left unaddressed and there is no proper handling from the relevant agencies, it will have a direct impact on agricultural productivity which will have an impact on the non-achievement of food security. To overcome this, government intervention is needed in terms of making and implementing policies to protect agricultural land. The purpose of this study is to identify the condition of agricultural land and find out the factors that cause the conversion of agricultural land and find out concrete actions taken by the Gresik Regency Government and the Gresik Regency Land Office. The method used in this study uses a Mix-Method which combines qualitative and quantitative. The results of this study show that the use of agricultural land in Gresik Regency during the period of 2003 – 2045 has experienced an area reduction of 5,854.23 hectares. These changes are dominated in the South Gresik area. To overcome the problem of unsupervised land use change, the Gresik Regency Government and the Gresik Regency Land Office have established various policies that are regulatory and technical. To realize the protection of agricultural land, cross-sector collaboration and collective community awareness are needed. Keywords: Degradation, Land Use, Agriculture
