Abstract

Panjang Baru Village, Pekalongan Utara District, Pekalongan City is one of the coastal areas on the North Coast of Java with the highest level of tidal flooding (rob) vulnerability in Pekalongan City. The increasingly severe tidal flooding has become one of the triggers for land use change in the area. This land use change has subsequently caused various social and economic impacts on the local community.This study aims to: (1) determine the extent and pattern of land use changes that occurred in Kelurahan Panjang Baru; (2) identify the social impacts caused by land use changes on the community; and (3) analyze the economic impacts caused by land use changes on the community in Kelurahan Panjang Baru. This research employed a mixed-method approach, combining quantitative and qualitative research methods. The quantitative method was used to analyze land use changes in Kelurahan Panjang Baru through spatial analysis techniques. Meanwhile, the qualitative method was applied to analyze the social and economic impacts of land use changes using Miles and Huberman’s analysis technique. The results of the study indicate that between 2012 and 2026, Kelurahan Panjang Baru experienced land use changes covering an area of 69.0037 hectares. The social impacts caused by land use change include improved accessibility and a decrease in the intensity of the Nyadran tradition. The economic impacts include a decline in the operational activities of the Pekalongan Fish Landing Center (TPI) and reduced fisheries productivity (ponds).
