Abstract
The conversion of agricultural land to non-agricultural use is a consequence of urban expansion that can impact the sustainability of the agricultural sector and food production. As a continuously developing city, Salatiga has experienced a shift from agricultural to non-agricultural land use, a trend that potentially affects rice production. This study aims to determine the extent and pattern of agricultural land conversion in Salatiga City for the years 2020 and 2025, and to analyze the impact of this conversion on rice production. The study employs an explanatory quantitative method with spatial and temporal approaches. Spatial analysis was conducted by overlaying land-use maps from 2020 and 2025 using Geographic Information Systems (GIS) to identify the area and pattern of land conversion, while statistical analysis utilized simple linear regression via SPSS to examine the impact of agricultural land conversion on rice production. The results indicate that the conversion of agricultural land to non-agricultural use occurred across 14 urban villages (kelurahan) in Salatiga City, exhibiting a dispersed distribution pattern. Simple linear regression analysis reveals that agricultural land conversion has a significant effect on rice production, with a significance value of 0.000 (<0.05). The coefficient of determination (R2) of 0.678 indicates that 67.8% of the variation in rice production is attributable to agricultural land conversion, while the remaining 32.2% is influenced by factors outside the scope of this study. Although the area of paddy fields decreased due to conversion, rice production did not necessarily decline; this is attributed to increased productivity resulting from the use of superior seed varieties, improved irrigation systems, fertilization, and the application of cultivation technologies. These findings are intended to serve as a basis for government decision-making regarding the control of agricultural land conversion to support sustainable food production in Salatiga City. Keywords: land conversion, rice production, Salatiga City.
