Abstract

The construction of the Boulevard Retention Pond in Lepo-Lepo Subdistrict, Baruga District, Kendari City was initially intended as an effort to control flooding. Over time, the Boulevard Retention Pond has also been utilized as a public green open space (RTH), which has influenced the social and economic conditions of the surrounding community. This study aims to analyze the social and economic impacts of the Boulevard Retention Pond development on the community in Lepo- Lepo Subdistrict. This research employed a qualitative method with a descriptive approach. Data were collected through interviews, observations, and documentation, then analyzed through several stages, including data collection, interview transcription and data management, data reduction, data categorization, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The results indicate that the construction of the Boulevard Retention Pond has generated social and economic impacts on the community. The social impacts are reflected in the increased social activities and positive community perceptions toward the existence of the Boulevard Retention Pond, as it helps reduce flooding and is supported by available facilities. The economic impacts are demonstrated by increased income among Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprise (MSME) actors, the development of various business activities, and the increase in land value and prices around the Boulevard Retention Pond. Therefore, the construction of the Boulevard Retention Pond not only functions as flood control infrastructure but also provides social and economic benefits for the surrounding community.
