Abstract

The Chili Cultivation Farmer Field School was implemented as a follow-up activity to the Agrarian Reform Access Arrangement Program in Ngadirojo Lor Village, Ngadirojo District, Wonogiri Regency. This study was motivated by the limited understanding of the impacts of the farmer field school on changes in human capital and farm income as part of the empowerment of agrarian reform beneficiaries. This research aimed to examine the differences between traditional and structured farming learning methods, the application of knowledge acquired through the farmer field school in utilizing land for chili cultivation, changes in human capital and farm income before and after participation in the farmer field school, and the contribution of the farmer field school to the continuity of farming among Agrarian Reform Access Arrangement beneficiaries. This study employed a descriptive qualitative approach. Data were collected through non-participant observation, in-depth interviews, open-ended questionnaires, and document analysis involving 16 farmer field school participants, an Agricultural Extension Officer, and staff of the Wonogiri Land Office. Data were analyzed using the Miles and Huberman interactive model, which consisted of data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings indicate that the farmer field school provided a more structured learning process than traditional farming practices. The implementation of the farmer field school improved participants' human capital, particularly in terms of knowledge and skills. Regarding farm income, after equalizing the cultivated land area to 300 m2 for one participant with complete farm records, chili production increased by 10.0%, revenue increased by 12.6%, farm income increased by 49.4%, while production costs decreased by 73.3%. Furthermore, the farmer field school contributed to farming continuity by strengthening participants' knowledge and skills and by providing production inputs, including seeds, fertilizers, and pesticides. Keywords: Chili Cultivation Farmer Field School; Agrarian Reform Access Arrangement; Human Capital; Farm Income; Farming Continuity.
