Abstract

One form of infrastructure implemented by the Indonesian government to encourage economic development and social welfare is toll roads. The Betung- Tempino-Jambi Toll Road is a National Strategic Project in Jambi Province, spanning 170.73 km. The land acquisition process for the toll road construction project can impact environmental stability as well as the economic and social lives of residents in the area. This study adopted a qualitative method with a descriptive approach. The study's findings indicate that: 1) a positive impact on residents' social conditions is a significant reduction in congestion on Betajam Road, which improves community mobility and accessibility; 2) a negative impact on community social conditions is the loss of neighbors for some residents due to land acquisition; 3) a positive impact on the community's economy is the creation of a new area that is more comfortable, more crowded, and increases the income of vendors; 4) a negative impact on the community's economy is a reduction in income for vendors around Betajam Road, which becomes quieter and an increase in illegal levies in the area.
