Abstract

Samigaluh Sub-district recorded the highest frequency of landslide occurrences in Kulon Progo Regency during the period 2022–2024. At the same time, parts of the area are still designated as residential zones in the Kulon Progo Regional Spatial Plan (RTRW). This condition highlights the need for an assessment of residential area suitability in relation to landslide hazard levels. This study aims to: (1) map the level of landslide hazard in Samigaluh Sub-district; (2) analyze the suitability of eksisting residential areas against the landslide hazard map; and (3) analyze the suitability of residential spatial allocations in the RTRW against the landslide hazard map. The method employed is quantitative descriptive with a spatial approach using Geographic Information Systems (GIS), through scoring and weighted overlay techniques applied to the parameters of slope gradient, rainfall intensity, soil type, rock type, and land use. The results indicate that Samigaluh Sub-district is predominantly classified under moderate landslide hazard (65%), followed by low hazard (23%) and high hazard (12%). The majority of eksisting residential areas are located in low-hazard zones (82%), whereas residential allocations in the RTRW are dominated by moderate-hazard zones (71%) and high-hazard zones (28%). Furthermore, 94% of eksisting settlements are situated within Conservation and Water Recharge Areas, which are inconsistent with the designated spatial use directives. These findings underscore the need for a reassessment of spatial use policies and the strengthening of landslide disaster mitigation efforts in Samigaluh Sub-district.
