Abstract

The demand for land continues to rise alongside population growth and area development, yet land availability is increasingly limited. This situation has led to the emergence of poorly controlled settlements, resulting in environmental degradation or the formation of slum areas. One government initiative to address slum settlements is the implementation of a renewal program. This study aims to identify the stages of the renewal process and the resulting socio-economic impacts on the community in RT 02 RW 01 Kampung Terban, Terban Urban Village, Gondokusuman District, Yogyakarta City. A qualitative method with a descriptive analysis approach was employed. This allowed for a clear delineation of the renewal stages, spanning pre construction, construction, and post construction phases. Observed social impacts include changes in social well-being and lifestyle, while economic impacts involve changes in income, employment, and asset ownership specifically the acquisition of legal tenure from the Yogyakarta Sultanate.
