Abstract

This study examines farmers’ perceptions of the implementation of the Protected Paddy Field (Lahan Sawah Dilindungi—LSD) policy and its influence on agricultural development in relation to local tourism development in Banjarasri Village, Kalibawang District, Kulon Progo Regency, Special Region of Yogyakarta. A quantitative explanatory approach was employed using questionnaires and documentation. The respondents comprised 40 farmers selected through purposive sampling and eight local tourism actors selected through total sampling. Agricultural data were analyzed using simple linear regression, while tourism data were analyzed descriptively. The results show that farmers’ perceptions of LSD policy implementation have a positive and significant influence on agricultural development, with a regression coefficient of 0.257, a significance value of 0.017, and a coefficient of determination of 0.141. This means that the variable explains 14.1% of the variation in agricultural development. Local tourism development was classified as high, with a mean score of 3.950, while its alignment with the LSD policy obtained the highest mean score of 4.4375. These findings indicate that agricultural protection and local tourism development can proceed simultaneously, provided that tourism development does not encourage the conversion of protected paddy fields.Z Keywords: agricultural development; farmers’ perceptions; local tourism; protected paddy fields; spatial balance
