Abstract

The strategic location of the city, the supportive topography, and the population growth can lead to increased land use changes in Pematangsiantar city. The study of the land use changes in Pematangsiantar city has produced information as a control in the form of a map of the suitability of the land use changes to The Regional Spatial Plan (called as RTRW) of Pematangsiantar city. In addition, an alternative solution for the spatial use problem is needed in Pematangsiantar City. The method used for this research is a qualitative method with a spatial approach. The technical analysis of the data which is used is a spatial analysis and the making of the land use maps in 2015 and 2020 by utilizing remote sensing through high�Resolution Satellite Imagery delineation. From 2015 to 2020, there are variations of land use changes in Siantar Marimbun Districts and Siantar Marihat Districts with the largest decrease in land use is the use of Irrigated Rice Fields 2x/year covering 56.40 hectare, and the largest increase in land use is residential land use rarely increasing an area of 22.28 hectares. There are 2,203.07 hectares areas of land use changes that are suitable to RTRW, 46.93 hectares that is not yet suitable to RTRW, and 155.19 hectares is not suitable to RTRW. The effort to control space utilization and to solve various spatial utilization problems in Pematangsiantar city require aspirational, systematic, and sustainable solutions.
