Abstract

The problem of regional inequality has become a crucial issue facing various countries. This often occurs, especially in metropolitan areas, which causes inequality between the core and hinterland areas, as is the case in the Kartamantul metropolitan area. This study aims to identify the regional inequality problem within the Kartamantul metropolitan area. As a recommendation, development directions are made to encourage a reduction in regional inequality through the development of basis sectors in each region, taking into spatial interaction factors between regions and existing regional potential. The method used in this study is a mixed method sequential explanatory design with a descriptive and literature review approach. The results indicate that regional inequality has increased over time in the Kartamantul metropolitan area. A series of analyses conducted to identify basis sectors in each region, spatial analysis, and the potential of each region serve as the basis for considerations and directions that need to be considered in addressing regional inequality. Based on these directions and considerations, the development of basis sectors needs to be focused on several potential locations in Yogyakarta City, Sleman Regency, and Bantul Regency. Furthermore, the importance of integrated spatial planning across regions requires attention to address inter-regional disparities in the Kartamantul metropolitan area.
