Abstract

Protected Paddy Fields (Lahan Sawah Dilindungi/LSD) are an instrument for controlling the conversion of paddy fields to support food security. However, discrepancies between the LSD Map and the actual paddy field use are still found in Mungkid and Mertoyudan Districts, Magelang Regency. This study aims to analyze the spatial pattern of discrepancies between the LSD Map and actual paddy field use, examine the influence of discrepancies between the LSD Map and the Regional Spatial Plan (RTRW), population density, accessibility, and the percentage of settlement area on discrepancies between the LSD Map and actual paddy field use, and establish priority zoning for paddy field protection based on food carrying capacity analysis. This research employed a quantitative approach using overlay analysis, Nearest Neighbour Analysis (NNA), multiple linear regression, and production-based food carrying capacity analysis. The results indicate that discrepancies between the LSD Map and actual paddy field use were found throughout the study area but statistically exhibited a clustered spatial pattern. Partially, discrepancies between the LSD Map and the RTRW (p = 0.034) and population density (p = 0.004) significantly affected discrepancies between the LSD Map and actual paddy field use, whereas accessibility (p = 0.381) and the percentage of settlement area (p = 0.069) had no significant effect. Simultaneously, the four independent variables significantly influenced the dependent variable with a coefficient of determination (R²) of 0,545. Food carrying capacity analysis showed that the study area remained in a food surplus condition, resulting in a paddy field protection priority zoning consisting of 11 villages/urban villages with high protection priority, 15 with medium protection priority, and 3 with low protection priority. These findings indicate that synchronizing paddy field protection policies with spatial planning, along with controlling regional development, is essential for improving the effectiveness of Protected Paddy Field conservation.
