Abstract
Since Sambongrejo was formally designated as a tourism village called “Kampung Samin” in 2021, the community has gained exposure to a new, service-based source of income alongside its agricultural activities. This study explores how the designation of Kampung Samin has transformed the livelihood of the Samin people. The research addresses the following questions: (1) How was Kampung Samin established, and in what ways did the community participate in shaping its tourism programs? (2) What economic opportunities have arisen since the designation? (3) How has the livelihood of the Samin community evolved across the five capitals of the sustainable livelihood framework? A qualitative descriptive method was employed, gathering data through in-depth interviews. Additional data was collected through field observations and documentation and analyzed using Miles and Huberman's interactive model. The findings indicate that Kampung Samin arose from spontaneous visits to the Samin elder, which were subsequently formalized with assistance from the local tourism office and the establishment of Pokdarwis Sido Rukun. The economic opportunities serve primarily as supplementary income, as tourism revenue remains inconsistent and unevenly distributed. Among the five livelihood capitals, the most significant changes were observed in human and social capital, evidenced by an expansion of skills and a broader network of institutional connections, while natural capital remained relatively unchanged due to ongoing land tenure constraints imposed by Perhutani. The community exhibits a pattern of adaptive persistence: changes occur selectively within institutional and economic dimensions, while ancestral values (pitutur luhur) continue to serve as a guiding framework, fostering resilience even during the tourism village's dormant phase following the elder's passing. Keywords: livelihood change, Samin community, sustainable livelihood, resilience, tourism village
