Abstract

Agricultural land conversion is a change in land use driven by the increasing need for housing, industry, and infrastructure. This study aims to: (1) analyze changes in agricultural land use in 2015–2025; (2) analyze the socio- economic impacts resulting from agricultural land conversion; and (3) analyze community livelihood strategies in dealing with agricultural land conversion. This study uses a mixed methods approach. Land use changes are analyzed through satellite image interpretation using the Maximum Likelihood Classification method validated with the Confusion Matrix. Socio-economic impacts are analyzed using a questionnaire with 39 respondents, while livelihood strategies are assessed through in-depth interviews based on the Sustainable Livelihood Framework from Scoones (1998). The results of the study indicate that the area of agricultural land in Delanggu District has decreased by 258 hectares, from 1,484 hectares in 2015 to 1,226 hectares in 2025. The pattern of land use change tends to follow the development of built-up areas, road networks, and centers of economic activity, while the most dominant form of conversion is the change of rice fields into settlements which increased by 211 hectares. Land conversion causes a decrease in social interaction, weakening of social organizations and networks, a decrease in social trust, and changes in community participation and reciprocal relationships. In the economic aspect, land conversion results in changes in livelihoods, changes in household income, changes in work time allocation, maintained access to health through BPJS/KIS ownership, ownership of savings as household economic reserves, and changes in the division of family labor with the increased involvement of wives and children in meeting economic needs. To maintain livelihoods, the community implements a strategy of diversifying income sources. Keywords: Agricultural Land Conversion, Land Use Change, Socio-Economic Impacts, Livelihood Strategies, Sustainable Livelihood Framework.
