Abstract
Population growth, urbanization, and the presence of industrial designated areas in Karawang Timur District have increased the demand for residential land and potentially exerted pressure on land and water resource availability. These conditions require spatial management that considers the environmental carrying capacity to support sustainable residential development. This study aims to analyze the spatial distribution of residential land availability based on the Residential Land Carrying Capacity (DDPm) and to examine the spatial distribution of pressure on residential land availability through the integration of Residential Land Carrying Capacity (DDPm) and Water Carrying Capacity (DDA) within the context of industrial designated areas in Karawang Timur District. This study employed a quantitative approach with spatial analysis using a Geographic Information System (GIS). The data used consisted of the 2025 land use map, population data for 2020 and 2025, rainfall data, administrative boundary maps, and the Regional Spatial Plan (RTRW) of Karawang Regency. The analysis included the calculation of Residential Land Carrying Capacity (DDPm) using the residential space requirement standard of 26 m2 per capita, the calculation of Water Carrying Capacity (DDA) based on the Regulation of the Minister of Environment of the Republic of Indonesia Number 17 of 2009, and spatial overlay analysis to determine the level of pressure on residential land availability. The results indicate that all villages in Karawang Timur District remain in a surplus condition in terms of Residential Land Carrying Capacity (DDPm), whereas all villages experience a deficit in Water Carrying Capacity (DDA). Based on the integration of DDPm, DDA, and the spatial context of industrial designated areas, high pressure was identified in Karawang Wetan, Palumbonsari, Tegalsawah, and Warungbambu Villages; moderate pressure in Adiarsa Timur, Kondangjaya, and Margasari Villages; and low pressure in Plawad Village. The findings demonstrate that pressure on residential land availability is influenced not only by the capacity of residential land but also by limitations in water availability and the spatial context of industrial designated areas. Therefore, the results of this study are expected to provide a basis for spatial use control and sustainable residential planning in Karawang Timur District. Keywords: Residential Land Carrying Capacity (DDPm), Water Carrying Capacity (DDA), residential land pressure, industrial designated areas, Geographic Information System (GIS).
